The season of warmth and thanksgiving is here.... it is also the season for gift giving. We hope that you will remember to make RoseMate a gift for yourself or for a flower lover.

Happy Thanksgiving! At this time of the year when most people experience the warmth of the coming season, it is important to realize that we live in the most wonderful country in the world. As my family says thanks... we include our military, present and past. Thank you so much for giving me and mine one of the most wonderful gifts - peace and security.

It is also the day before Black Friday and if you have that one or two people on your list that you cannot think of a gift.... give them a gift that they will enjoy all year through... a RoseMate shears. We can ship direct to the giftee and add your own personal note. It is the gift that they will use for years,.. with fondness for your thoughtfulness.

You can also follow us on twitter and blog.... Rosemate 4 Me... for tips on gardening as well as arrangements.

Nov. 10th. If you have not been following our blog or twitter, I will try to catch up with those sites. We have been discussing cuttings, compost and pruning. As this is not the time of year to be feeding your plants, make sure that if it is freezing, they have some type of blanket to keep the ground from freezing, defrosting and refreezing. This is what kills the plants. If you have moved pots into the garage or basement, they should be okay. Water only occasionally like once every month about a 1/2 C. or less. Feel the ground, if it is too dry, add a half cup of water.  For the warm areas of the country... it is a little early to severely prune, but plan to cut back your roses about mid Dec./early Jan.  If you are planning to give a gift of a rose tree or bush, remember to include a Rosemate Shears too. Perfect gift for those very hard to buy for people.

Oct. 27th - new gardening tips are available on our blog. It is the time of year to be thinking about what plan ts need to be protected. Remember, in addition to a RoseMate Shears for your floral bouquets, a good heavy pruning shears is necessary to cut out dead wood from your bushes before you put them to bed for winter. A good heavy pruner will also help you keep your trees in good shape too.

Please follow us on our blogspot... "Rosemate 4 Me.blog.com or twitter. We are giving handy tips for the garden.

Today we are encouraging the people in the warmer climate areas to put in their winter gardens. I love raddishes and just threw some seeds into a pot to watch on my patio. Pot gardening is an alternative for people who do not have yard space or just do not want a lot of crop.

Floral tips:

Did you know that cutting floral stems over hot (not boiling) water will help seal in the natural moisture for the flower.

Adding a half tsp of sugar and bleach to the vase water will help keep your water clear. This should be done about every third day.

Did you know that you can now follow us on our RoseMateblog and/or twitter where we give helpful tips! Let us hear from you... want to know what works for you or if you have any questions. Always stop to smell the roses... its worth the time.

Cuttings:

9-4-11 Fall is quickly upon us. Its time to start thinking of what you want to add to your flower beds. Mums are one of the most colorful long lasting plants you can get. The new varieties are shorter in height, thus eliminating the need to stake. In many climates Mums will last for years. They are also easy to cultivate. Take a fresh stem (not hardened) and snip at least 3" long from the tip, making the cut close to a leave. This will also make the plant grow fuller. The cutting stem remove the bottom leaves until about a inch from top. Plant the cutting in sand, pertilite or a loamy soil. It will take a month to 2 months, for the rooting. If you want to transplant, wait for the new root.

9-19-11 Did you know that you can grow your own rose bushes? Make a clean cutting, removing the thorns and leaves off the bottom of the stem you intend to use for the cutting. Place the cutting into perilite or even a nice rich soil. Water using B-11 to help promote growth. Cover with a large clear mascon jar and forget for about 4-mos. The natural watering you do on the rest of the garden should give the cutting the moisture required. Pickup the jar in about 4 mos and gently dig up the stem. You should see some new roots. Now you can transplant to anywhere in your garden. I strongly urge you to use a transplant or cutting dust on the new roots to help them grow. Its fun! and just think of the admiration you get from friends! Happy Gardening!
